DOUG CORDELL
Doug Cordell is an Emmy-nominated television writer, award-winning playwright, radio essayist and author. He has published pieces in, among other places, New York Newsday, the Brooklyn Rail, and Radical Society, and has done readings of his work at the Bowery Poetry Club, the WKCR Radio Arts Festival, and HERE Arts Center in New York City. His plays have been produced by theater companies in New York and Los Angeles, including The Culture Project, Naked Angels, and the Atrium Theater Company. In 2004 he was nominated for an Emmy for Best Writing on a Children’s Television Show for his work on “Bear in the Big Blue House” (Disney/Henson). His other television credits include, “The Book of Pooh” (Disney), “Maya and Miguel” (Scholastic/PBS), “It’s a Big, Big World” (PBS/Sony), “Pocoyo” (Granada Television), and “Allegra’s Window” (Jumbo/Nickelodeon), as well as development projects for HBO, Levinson-Fontana Productions and Universal. A former speechwriter for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he is also author of the book, “Prescription Drugs: What You Don’t Know Can Kill You,” and is currently completing his first novel. Armed with an MFA in creative writing from New York University, he walks the mean streets of Brooklyn, NY.
